Review: Air Optix Night and Day Aqua

I have been wearing contacts since 2006. I began by wearing Acuvue Oasys and Acuvue 2 Colors brand contacts before I was introduced to, and totally fell in love with, circle lenses in 2007! Since then, I have only been wearing circle lenses (as my contact lens of choice). However, in the past three years, I have started neglecting taking my contacts out to take naps. Sometimes I even fall asleep with them for a good five hours! I am weary that this is a really bad habit... but the whole process of taking out and putting on contacts, can sometimes be really annoying. For example, sometimes I fall asleep while reading a book, and when someone wakes me up, I refuse to because I am just so sleepy! But my contacts are still in, and at that moment, I Dont Care. Of course, once I become logically conscious, and am trying to peel the contacts from my eyes, I regret my decision! All of this led me to seek out contacts that I can sleep with.

Air Optix Night&Day Aqua Review

Description as Advertised

Air Optix Night & Day Aqua contact lenses are the only lenses that can claim the highest oxygen transmissibility of any lens on the market today. That means you can take a quick nap in them, or you can sleep in them and they'll still retain their enduring comfort. In fact, the FDA has approved these contacts for up to 30 nights of continuous wear.

Price: 71.99/box from 1800contacts. (I bought them for $80/box at my optical)

UP TO THIRTY DAYS!! CAN YOU BELIEVE IT?? (I bought half a year supply)

The Review: (please scroll down to read the updated review)

It is okay. Just okay.

The longest I ever worn the lenses without taking them out is  two days and one night. I know the product advertised "up to 30 nights of continuous wear" but I personally don't feel sanitary for wearing them that long. In fact, when I spoke to my optometrist about it, she said she wouldn't recommend it and that it is best to take them out every night before you sleep. But that kinda defeats the purpose of me buying them. So I rationalized that two days and one night wouldn't do much harm. Plus, I know people who keeps them on much longer than that and never experienced any issues.

Comfort 1st Day: 3.8/5
On the scale of most comfortable being Acuvue Oasys and least comfortable being EOS G-207 "Super Nudy Pink" (1), this is a 3.8. Its pretty on par with most circle lenses I have tried. HOWEVER, I had one incidence where I "lost" a contact in my eye! "Lost" as in, the contact was still on my eye, but I can't see/or find it when pulling at my lower and upper eyelids. No, contacts cannot move to the back of your eye.

How it got "lost": When I rub my eyes the lens dislodges itself from my eye, folds upon itself, and hid itself underneath my upper eyelids.

Solution: Close your eyes and massage your eye lids in a downward motion. You should feel your contact lens. Massage it towards the center of your eye so you can get it the fuck out!

This is the first time I "lost" a contact lens in my eye. With circle lenses, sometimes they will come off but not this.

Comfort After Waking Up: 2/5
Dry! It feels only slightly better than when I wake up with circle lenses. If I were to move my eyes, the contact lenses do not move with them because it is so dried up and stuck in one place. This goes away after being awake for 10 minutes. But then again, the dryness also goes away for circle lenses within the same time period. I feel more okay sleeping with these lenses overnight, mainly because it is advertised to be okay, but if I didn't know these were contacts made to do so, I wouldn't wear or feel okay wearing them overnight.

Comfort 2nd Day: 3.8/5
After the initial dryness of waking up, I have no issues with wearing them throughout the day.

Rating: 3.2/5

I am rating this brand a 3 out of 5 for overall comfort and price. Please be aware that everyone's eyes are different and that mine may just be naturally very dry when I wake up. There are definitely people out there loving this product, but unfortunately, I am not one of them. Hopefully I will find another brand out there like this that will work better for me.

EDIT: Updated Review

After about 2 months of now wearing these lenses, I decided to give them another try. Besides, these are perfectly good contacts, and I would hate to waste them. This time around I got surprisingly very different results from wearing them than I did when I wrote this review a few months back! I actually experience none of the dryness when I woke up! I'm not sure whether I just got a defected lens the last time or my body's reaction towards them changed..... Anyways, because I haven't experienced any discomfort with these lens, I am updating my overall rating to a 4.2/5.
